warbler
a kind of bird – song bird – insectivore (= feeds on insects) – diurnal (= active during day)
The name ‘warbler’ is given to a very large group (super family) of birds which share some out-ward similarities, such as small in size, singing songs (calls), feeding (eating) on insects, mostly living in trees (some may feed on ground), mostly brown, greenish grey, grey or yellow, some of which may be related to the other species (kinds) of small birds.
They are divided into three major types: the ‘new world warblers or wood-warblers’; ‘old world warblers’; and ‘Australian warblers’. Some kinds in these types may be inter-related, but some may be entirely different.
The smallest – Lucy’s warbler – is 4½ inches in length, and 6½ grams in weight; the largest – yellow breasted chat (?) – is 7½ inches in length, and 27 grams in weight.
Special Features:
The ‘Japanese bush warbler’ is the province bird of Fukuoka and Yamanashi provinces in Japan.
