tumultuous ~ tumulus

“Tumultuous” (adjective) means ‘(of a period of time) full of change, noisy activity, confusion and/or violence; (of some activity) very loud because people are crazy with excitement, happy or full of strong feeling’,
e.g.
The foreign fans gave him a tumultuous welcome when the pop singer was on his world tour.
The years between 1946 and ‘48 was a tumultuous period for the people of free India.

“Tumulus” (noun, with plural form ‘tumuli’) is ‘a very large pile (mound) of earth (soil) put over a grave of an important person by the people in ancient times’ (‘tumulus’ is also called barrows, burial mounds or kurgans); and ‘some of the tumuli can be the uplift of lava’,
e.g.
The medieval graves did not have any tumuli, instead they were covered with stone or slab.
A tumulus composed of stone, completely or partly, is called cairn.
