“Trunk” (noun) is ‘the thick main part of a tree from which branches grow; the main part of a human body, not including the head, arms and legs; the long nose part of an elephant;
e.g.
The trunks of some tropical trees are carved into boats.
He has a stout trunk that filled the large chair. [i.e. the main part of the his body is very large]
It’s amazing to learn that an elephant can pick up a small pin with its long, thick trunk.

“Trunk” (noun) is ‘a very large strong wooden or metal box in which clothes, books, valuable things are kept; (usually in plural form “trunks”) a pair of very short knickers worn by men while swimming (also swimming trunks); {in American English = the spacious back part with a cover of a car where things, such as bags, tools, etc. can be kept; “boot” is the word used in British English}’,
e.g.
My little nephew found some interesting old pictures and books in his grandfather’s trunk. [trunk = a large strong box]
He put on his trunks/swimming trunks and went for a swim in the pool.
She put all her bags and suitcases in the trunk of her automobile and drove off. [trunk = the covered part of a car {‘boot’}]
