“Trip” (noun) is ‘a visit (journey) to a place and back, especially a short one, usually for pleasure; (informal but rare) the strange mental experience a person has when they have taken powerful drugs, such as LSD; {in informal American English – a person or some experience that is funny or unusual}’,
e.g.
He’s gone on a business trip to Malaysia.
They are planning to go on a fishing trip.
Two lucky persons from our office won a round trip to Switzerland, all expenses paid!
My granddaughter believes that I’m a trip. [i.e. she thinks that I am unusual or funny]

“Trip”, as a verb, ~~~ trip – tripped – tripped – tripping, usually with ‘over’ or ‘up’, is ‘to hit something with your foot (or catch your feet in something) and fall or almost fall over; (of electricity connections) to turn on a switch to start an alarm go off, or to close down some electric supply; to walk, run or dance with quick but light steps’; as a noun, it is ‘the act of hitting something with one’s foot or to get one’s foot caught in something and fall or almost fall over’,
e.g.
Toddlers trip over quite often until they become sure-footed.
Don’t chuck (throw) your bag in the door way; somebody may trip on it!
Most accidents at the construction sites are caused by trips and falls.
