spice ~ spies

“Spice” (noun & usually in its plural form ‘spices’) is ‘the small selected parts such as leaves, roots, bark, flowers, seeds, fruit of certain plants and trees that are used in foods, usually added while cooking, to make the food items taste better and smell delicious; the special or extra excitement that is added to some event’,
e.g.
Ginger is a common spice.
Chilli powder, clove, garlic, ginger and cinnamon are some of the many spices people in Asia use a lot in their foods.
We need to go on an exciting tour abroad to add some spice to our dull lives. [i.e. to add some excitement and thrill to the dull lives]

“Spies” (noun) is the plural form of the word ‘spy’ which means ‘a trained person whose job is to find out secret information about some group, organisation, company or country, usually pretending to be a member of that group, organisation, etc.’,
e.g.
During the ‘cold war’ between the USSR and the USA, there were spies everywhere: the US spies in Russia and the Russian spies in America.
One of the ever-popular movie spies is the James Bond of England!
