smile ~ simile

“Smile”, as a verb, is ‘to keep one’s face pleasant and make the mouth (lips) move or curve upwards (not opening the mouth) in order to show one’s friendly and happy feelings’; as a noun, it is ‘the pleasant expression on one’s face with the mouth (lips) curve upwards to show friendly or happy feelings or to show acceptance of something or someone’,
e.g.
The teacher smiled at the students and wished them good morning before starting the lesson.
The young man winked at her, and the beautiful girl smiled back at him.
“I’ll buy you a nice dress,” the little girl’s mother said to her with a smile.

“Simile” (noun & a figure of speech) is ‘a word, phrase or an expression that is used to compare something or someone to something or someone else, using the connection words “like, as or such”’,
e.g.
“As white as snow” is an example of a simile.
A piece of writing becomes more interesting when relevant similes and metaphors are used in it.
