“Slot”, as a noun, is ‘a long narrow hole or cut in a box-like device or machine into which one can put (slide) or drop something to work or to get something from the device or machine; a short period of time allowed for a particular event, usually on TV or radio; a mall place in a large area kept aside for a particular purpose’; as a verb, it is ‘to put, slide or drop something in a slot’,
e.g.

She slotted a CD into the music system and started to dance to the music.

“Slit”, as a verb ~~~ slit – slit – slit – slitting , is ‘to cut something, such as cloth, paper, skin or muscle, in a straight narrow line with a sharp blade or knife’; as a noun, it is ‘a long straight narrow cut in something’,
e.g.
The office secretary slit opened the envelope with an opener, took out a letter and started to read it aloud for all to hear.
Butchers in the slaughter-house kill animals by slitting their throats.
The girl we saw at the party had a slit up the back of her old skirt.
