Slander”, as a noun, is ‘a false statement about a popular person, said in public or written in newspapers, to damage the good opinion others have of that person; the crime of making false spoken or written statements about a great or popular person’; as a verb, it is ‘to say or write false damaging statements about some great or popular person to damage the good opinion or impression other people have of that person’,

e.g.

The budding politician is taken to court of law for slander for making false statements about a woman social worker.

A young labour union leader made some comments to slander the Labour Minister.

Scandal” (noun & the ‘c’ with a ‘k’ sound) is ‘some event or talk, usually involving some great or popular persons, that the general public think is morally or legally wrong and that causes public feelings of shock and/or anger’,

e.g.

The top industrialist got into a sex scandal that ruined his business.

It caused quite a scandal when the popular model divorced her husband and started living with a film producer.

Slender” (adjective) means ‘(of a person or plant) slim, i.e. thin in an attractive way; very small in amount and/or size’,

e.g.

He is very proud of his slender and fashionable girlfriend.

Countries like India must learn to make the most of their slender resources.   [i.e. their limited resources]
