sent ~ scent
['scent' and 'sent' have the same pronunciation, as in "bent"]
“Sent” (verb ~~~ send – sent – sent – sending ) is the past and past participle form of the verb word ‘send’ which means ‘to arrange for or make someone or something to go or to be taken to another place; to make a message or some information reach another place or person, usually by post, through electric or electronic means’,
e.g.
He sent us a letter of apology for being late in payment.
They sent her an e-mail last week.
Soldiers from several countries were sent to fight in the war in Iraq.

“Scent”, as a noun, is ‘the pleasant smell that a person or thing has; the special smell (odour) of an animal or person has that other animals, such as dogs, cats, another person, etc. can identify and follow; a special liquid with some sweet smell that people put on their bodies to make them give out pleasant smell’; as a verb, it is ‘to come to know of a smell; give out a special smell; to suddenly realise that something has happened or will happen and to get prepared for it’,
e.g.
The hunting dog followed the scent of a fox and led the hunter to its burrow.
The sweet scent of incense filled the prayer hall.
The roses scented the garden with their sweet smell.
The news reporters scented that there was an interesting story behind the disappearance of the film actor’s daughter and started to investigate the matter.
