[‘cede’ rhymes with ‘seed’]
“Seed”, as a noun, is ‘the small, usually hard, object produced by plants, usually found in the fruit, from which a new plant of the same kind grows; a player or team in a competition that is given a particular position, basing on their performance and/or how likely they are to win’; as a verb, it is ‘to remove seeds from fruit, and also from certain vegetables, before eating or cooking; (sow) to put seeds in the soil in order to grow new plants from them; to give a player or team in a competition a particular position’,
e.g.
The oil from sunflower seeds is used in cooking.
I don’t like custard apples; they are full of seeds.
Now-a-days farmers are growing seedless fruit.
The Indian tennis player, Vijay Amrutharaj, was the top seed for several years.
Seed the dates before feeding them to children. [i.e. remove the seeds from the date fruit before giving them to children to eat]

“Cede” (verb) is ‘to give away something, such as a large piece of land or a right of ownership, to another person or country, usually when forced to do so’; ‘to grant (give somebody something officially)’,
e.g.
In the past the Pakistani military regime refused to cede power to the elected people’s government.
Much of the land along the borders of the small countries has been ceded to the more powerful neighbours.
