secret ~ secrete

[different pronunciation, with a long first vowel sound ‘see’ in “secret” --- 'see.cret', and the letters 'se' rhyme with the letters 'si' in "sit" and the letters 'crete' are said with a long vowel sound ‘…creet’ in “secrete” -- 'si.creet']

Secret” (adjective) means ‘(of a person or a thing or a matter) not known to many people, kept hidden from others; (of feelings, worries, plans or actions) that one does not want other people to know about’,

(a secret room behind a shelf)

e.g.

They kept their illicit relationship secret from their families until she became pregnant.

The government agent had secret talks with the terrorists.

Every country has a secret service that works secretly to gather information about the plans of other countries.

Some scientists made some research on cloning, but kept the findings secret.

Her secret fear is that she may be asked to resign from job because of her ill-health.

Secrete” (verb) is ‘(of animals, including humans, and plants) to produce or give out a liquid substance from certain parts of the body; {very formal} to hide something’,

(snails secrete a kind of slime)

e.g.

The salivary glands in an animal’s mouth secrete saliva.

Most insects secrete deadly poisonous substance from different parts of their bodies to defend themselves from the natural predators.

No body knew where the old man secreted all his money.   [i.e. no body knew where the old man hid all his money]
