Saw” (verb) is the past tense form of the verb word ‘see’  —  see – saw – seen – seeing — which means ‘getting the images or pictures of  the things around a person or animal using their eyes into their brain’,

e.g.

She saw him crossing the street.

I saw her at the party last night.

Saw”, as a noun, is ‘a tool with a wooden handle attached to a flat metal blade with a sharp edge on one side cut into many ‘V’ shaped grooves used for cutting down trees, and by a carpenter, for cutting planks of wood into shapes; a short, amusing and familiar phrase or sentence that tells us about some truth or general matter in life – like a proverb or saying’; and as a verb ~~~ saw – sawed – sawed – sawing , it is ‘to cut off something with a ‘saw’’,

e.g.

Cutting down trees with chainsaws is quicker and easier than with hand saws.

Father was in the backyard sawing dead branches off the mango tree.

I saw him sawing off the leg of my bed with a hand saw.

(the first ‘saw’ – the past form of the verb word ‘see’; ‘sawing’ – the present participle (-ing) form of the verb word ‘saw’; the second ‘saw’ – noun, a tool with which things are cut)
