propound ~ profound

[slightly different second consonant sound]

Propound” (verb) is ‘to put forward or offer as a question or matter for consideration or solution; giving some theory or idea or rule (principle) to others to consider and follow’,

e.g.

The Guru propounded a riddle and asked her ignorant disciples to read it.

The theory of ‘The Survival of the Fittest’ was first propounded by the great English scientist Charles Darwin.

Profound” (adjective) means ‘deep; strongly felt; having or showing great interest or knowledge’,

e.g.

She has profound interest in his music and eventually fell in love with him.

One needs a profound mind to understand religious scriptures.
