Project” (noun & with a slightly longer ‘O’ sound) is ‘a planned work or activity; a plan or scheme undertaken by a group of people or students or a government’,

a project program software

e.g.

The government is spending huge amounts to improve irrigation projects.

Some of my students are doing a project on adult education.

Project” (verb, with a slightly shorter ‘O’ sound; and remembering the word ‘projector’, which is used for showing films or slides on a screen, will help us to remember the pronunciation of this word) is ‘to estimate or calculate what something will be in the later stage(s), using the information one has on hand; stick out beyond or from a surface or edge; to focus a picture or an image of something on to a smooth surface, such as a wall or screen, in order to make that object look larger, and the apparatus used is called ‘projector’,

e.g.

A projector projects images from a computer onto any surface with more clarity.

Our company projected an overall growth rate of 12% last year.

The chimneys project from the roof, looking old and dirty.
