prognosis ~ diagnosis

Prognosis” (noun, with the plural form “prognoses”) is ‘the opinion of a medical expert (a doctor) on the probable future course or development of a particular disease (illness); the description of the future of something that has already begun based on information or experience’,

e.g.

The prognosis of my illness is not all that good.

By the early 2000s the prognosis for the world economy wasn’t encouraging.

Diagnosis”, as a noun with the plural form “diagnoses”, is ‘the statement of the result of discovering the nature of a disease basing on the change(s) [symptom(s)] in the body or mind that shows disorder; the act of finding out what disease a patient has, usually by a medical doctor’ {‘diagnose’ is its verb from}’,

e.g.

The course of treatment for a disease depends on the diagnosis.

My physician’s diagnosis of my illness is a common cold!
