practice ~ practise

[‘practise’ rhymes with ‘practice’]

Great care should be taken in using this pair of words because ‘practice’ is a noun in British English and ‘practise’ is a verb, but in American English ‘practice’ is both a noun and a verb!

Practice” (noun) is ‘the act of doing something or the use of something (but not just keeping in ideas or theory) regularly in order to achieve something; the way of doing something regularly; the system of doing repeatedly or regularly, usually in order to learn or to make something perfect’,

e.g.

He has brilliant plans in his mind but he lacks courage to put them into practice.

It is said that the champion runner had a six-hour practice every day.

In some countries it is a common practice to work on Sundays.
