[‘poll’ rhymes with ‘pole’]
“Poll”, as a noun, is ‘the act of giving votes in writing in an election; the official list of people (in an area) who are eligible to vote; the number of votes recorded, etc.’; and as a verb, it is ‘to give a vote at an election; to cut short the horns of domestic cattle’,
e.g.
The young politician is expecting great majority at the polls.
Almost all the people came out to poll their votes at the polling booths/stations.
[“Poll” is name used for a parrot (a bird), usually in stories.]

“Pole”, as a noun, is ‘a long, thin and round piece of wood or metal used for supporting a tent, or to fly flags or to tie wires for passing electricity; a long, thin and round piece of wood used to push a boat, barge, etc.; (of a person) slightly mad’; and as a noun, always with a capital ‘P’, it is ‘one of the either ends of the earth’s axis; one of the either ends of a magnet; one of the stars’; {And the people of Poland are called “Poles”.}; and as a verb, it is ‘to push a boat with a pole; or to push oneself when on skies with ski poles’,
e.g.
You can see all sorts of poles by the side of any busy road — electric poles, flag poles, poles for sign boards, etc.
The North Pole and the South Pole are the coldest spots on the Earth.
Poles are a very friendly people. [i.e. people from Poland]
