Poll”, as a noun, is ‘the act of giving votes in writing in an election; the official list of people (in an area) who are eligible to vote; the number of votes recorded, etc.’; and as a verb, it is ‘to give a vote at an election; to cut short the horns of domestic cattle’,

Almost all the people came out to poll their votes at the polling booths/stations.

[“Poll” is name used for a parrot (a bird), usually in stories.]

Pole”, as a noun, is ‘a long, thin and round piece of wood or metal used for supporting a tent, or to fly flags or to tie wires for passing electricity; a long, thin and round piece of wood used to push a boat, barge, etc.; (of a person) slightly mad’;   and as a noun, always with a capital ‘P’, it is ‘one of the either ends of the earth’s axis; one of the either ends of a magnet; one of the stars’; {And the people of Poland are called “Poles”.}; and as a verb, it is ‘to push a boat with a pole; or to push oneself when on skies with ski poles’,
