pizza ~ piazza

[‘pizza’ is pronounced (roughly) ‘pee-tsaw’, but not ‘pijja’; and ‘piazza’ with an “a” sound between ‘p’ and ‘tsa’ (roughly) like “pi-a-zaw”  -- please, listen to the videos you see on the right of this text]

Pizza” (noun) is ‘a piece of bread dough layer or pastry baked with cheese, tomatoes, and some other vegetables, or meat/chicken on top of it, in the shape of a plate’,

a delicious pizza, ready to be eaten

e.g.

You look hungry.  Would like to have some pizza?

You can get any variety of pizza at the ‘Pizza Hut’ round the corner.

Piazza” (noun) is ‘a large open place (called square) between the houses or shops in an area in a town or city where people meet an sit together, talking and sipping coffee or tea’,

a piazza in San Gimignano, a small hill town in the province of Siena in north-central Italy

e.g.

It is said that every town in Italy has a piazza popular with numerous tourists.
