pheasant ~ peasant

[‘pheasant’ starts with a soft ‘f’ sound; and ‘peasant’, with a ‘p’ sound]

“Pheasant” (noun) is ‘a medium-sized bird with a long tail, often shot for sport or for meat; the meat of this bird’,

e.g.

In olden days, the gentry used to go hunting pheasants for sport.

“Peasant” (noun) is ‘a poor farmer who owns or rents a small piece of agricultural land, or who works on somebody else’s land and gets paid in cash or in grain or whatever they produce; a word used to insult a person for their impolite behaviour in social situations, or to comment on somebody who is not well-educated’,

e.g.

Most Indian farmers are peasants.
