patrol ~ petrol

“Patrol” as a verb, means ‘to go round a place such as a building, camp, roads or borders of a country, to see in order to control or check any wrongdoings, unlawful activities or entering or leaving of people without proper permission, etc.’, and as a noun, it means ‘the act of patrolling’,
e.g.
The police are patrolling the streets to control the rioters who are disturbing the peace.
There is round-the-clock patrol on our borders to keep the smugglers in check.

“Petrol” (noun) {‘gas’ or ‘gasoline’ in American English} is ‘a liquid substance used as fuel to run engines of cars, aeroplanes, etc.’,
e.g.
We ran out of petrol and had to push our car to the nearest petrol-station.
