I have a travel pass which allows me to travel by trains without having to pay for a ticket.

“Pass” (noun) is ‘a narrow way through a mountain range, by which someone gains entrance (i.e. can pass) to a country’,
e.g.
Though the Himalayan mountain range guarded the north of India, foreign invaders found their way into the country by Khyber and Bolan Passes.
