palate ~ pallet ~ palette ~ (pellet)
[‘palate’, ‘pallet’ and ‘palette’ are pronounced with the same sound; ‘pellet’, however, has a different first vowel sound]
“Palate” (noun) is ‘the upper part (roof) of the inside of the mouth; a person’s ability to taste food’,
e.g.
My aunt has a good palate for cream cakes.

“pallet” (noun) is ‘a cloth cover filled with dry stems of crops (straw) put on the floor for sleeping on; a narrow hard uncomfortable mattress; a large platform-like tray for lifting heavy loads, used with a machine like vehicle called a forklift; a flat wooden tool used by potters’,
e.g.
One cannot sleep on a pallet when one is used to sleeping on a foam mattress.

“Palette” (noun) is ‘a board used by an artist (painter) for mixing colours’,
e.g.
A good painter must know how to mix colours on his palette with a palette knife.
{“Pellet” is a small round solid piece of something, such as a bullet, wax, medicine, etc.; a small round stone used in shooting a catapult.}
