a kind of animal – mammal – belongs to ‘true monkeys’ – small, with different colours, thick long hair around ears and neck and shoulders, arms (front legs) are shorter than the back legs with claws on each finger except the big toes, very long tail; size: 5-10 inches long, plus 6-8 inch-long tail, and weight: 100-400 grams; feeds on (eats) mostly on the gum (tree sap), fruit, leaves and insects; lives for 7-10 years in the wild (individuals can live up to 16 years in captivity); about 18 (?) species (kinds) found in South America

The ‘pygmy marmoset’ is the smallest of all true monkeys in the world; it can be held in the palm of a person!

Marmosets are kept as pets, and are used in the medical research!

Marmosets live in troops, about 5 to 15 in each troop, and only one couple (breeding male and female) has babies!

Female marmosets typically give birth to twins, and the father and non-mothers also help in taking care of the babies.
