macaw
a kind of bird – related to parrot – large with different bright attractive coloured feathers, relatively large head with large black beak (bill) with hooked upper part and a dry tongue with a bone inside, light coloured patches on the face – around the eyes and near the base of the beak (some species have larger patches and some have smaller ones), large wings, short legs with 4 toes on each foot with two toes to the front and two to the back, long tail feathers; size: (different species is of different size and weight) from 1 foot to 3½ feet long, and weight: from 125 grams to 1½ Kg; feeds on (eats) fruit, nuts, insects and snails; lives for 35-50 years (some species and some individuals are known to live for 75-100 years); about 17 (?) species (kinds) originally from the tropical regions of Mexico, Central America and South America, but now bred for the pet market in many parts of the world
Some common macaws are: hyacinth macaw, military macaw, scarlet macaw, red-bellied macaw, blue-headed macaw, blue-winged macaw, green-winged macaw

Macaws are a popular pet bird found in many home around the world.
Hyacinth macaw is the largest of all macaws and parrots.
It is amazing to know that the facial patches are unique as a human’s finger print, i.e. each macaw has its own facial patch, just like each person has his/her own individual finger print!
Macaws are very loud birds. They squawk, squeak and scream, and these calls are heard far and wide.
Macaws eat a lot of fruits, but they do not help in dispersal of seeds!
