macaque

a kind of animal – mammal – a general name for a large family of monkeys – 19-22 species, each with its own body size, weight, colour and food habits; originally from Asia and North Africa (but now found in many parts of the world, especially in zoos, in scientific research facilities and laboratories; Some of the common macaques are: Arunachal macaque, Tibetan macaque, Assam macaque, Bonnet macaque, Japanese macaque, Rhesus macaque, crab-eating macaque or long-tailed macaque, lion-tailed macaque, Barbary macaque, southern pig-tailed macaque, Taiwanese macaque, stump-tailed macaque, booted macaque, Sulawesi (Celebes) macaque, etc.
Each of the species and sub-species of macaque has its own special features. Therefore, we discuss some of the more important or more popular macaques separately.
