lode ~ load

[both these words have the same pronunciation that rhymes with ‘road’]

Lode” (noun) is ‘the amount of metal in its original form found in the nature (ore)’,

e.g.

The soil here is soft, so it is easy to find and extract the lodes.

Load”, as a noun, is ‘the amount of weight to be carried; something that is usually heavy to be carried; the stress of some responsibility or feeling’; and as a verb, it is ‘to put or fill some carriage or vehicle with some goods that are usually heavy and to be transported; to fit or put a film in a camera or to put the ammunition (bullets, cartridges, shells) into a firearm (gun, rifle, rocket launcher) to shoot’,

e.g.

We need a couple of strong men to carry this load of wine bottles.

In some parts of the world donkeys are still used to carry loads.

The truck was loaded with apples.
