know ~ no:

[‘know’ rhymes with ‘no’, but not with ‘now’]

{The letters ‘k’ & ‘w‘ in “know” are silent.}

[These words -- 'know' and 'no' -- have been used several time in the first related video you see on the right of this text, please pay attention and try to identify which sound is "no" and which one is "know".]

Know” (verb) is ‘to have the knowledge of some information or fact in mind’,

e.g.

I know her name, and She knows mine.

He does not know what to do with his clumsy servant.

No” (adverb) is ‘one of the adverbs of negation and is used to express refusal or disagreement; as the opposite of ‘yes; and to means ‘not any, not one, etc.’,

e.g.

He has no money on him.

Do you play golf? — No, I don’t.

She has got no worries at all!

Common Errors:

He ran out of his house to know what was happening.     [wrong]

He ran out of his house to find out what was happening. [right]

2.

A police detective visited her to know where she was on the night of the theft.      [wrong]

A police detective visited her to find out where she was on the night of the theft.  [right]

3.

The best way to know any city is to visit it on foot.            [wrong]

The best way to get to know any city is to visit it on foot.  [right]
