knit ~ nit:

[‘knit’ rhymes with ‘nit’]

{The letter ‘k’ in ‘knit’ is silent.}

Knit” is ‘to make cloth (garment or fabric) by uniting threads, usually woollen, with a pair of long needles called ‘knitting-needles’ or on machines’,

(‘Knitter‘ is a person who knits.)

His girlfriend knitted him a blue sweater for the winter.

Europeans prefer knit-wear to synthetic clothes.

Nit” is ‘an egg or a very young of a small insect, usually a louse; a foolish person (also called ‘nitwit’)’,

a nit of a head louse

e.g.

My granny has a cure for nits.

You can’t mistake a nit for dandruff.

She looked a right nit in her horrible red dress.  (fool)
