knight ~ night:
[‘knight’ rhymes with ‘night’]
{The letter ‘k’ in “knight” is silent.}
“Knight” is ‘a man of noble birth given an honourable military rank in former times; (in modern times) a man given a special title for his services to the State in Great Britain’, and ‘either of the two pieces with a horse’s head in the game of ‘chess’,
[The man given this title, called ‘kinghthood’, has “Sir”, always with a capital ‘S’, before his name, for example, Sir Ronald Ross, Sir C V Raman, etc.]
e.g.
Knights in their full shining armour, riding huge horses, led the armies into bloody battles in olden days.
The famous Hollywood actor, Anthony Hopkins, is the newest recipient of the knighthood from the Queen of England; and now we all must call him Sir Anthony Hopkins!
____________________
“Night” is ‘the twelve hours of the twenty-four hours of a day, between sunset and sunrise’,
e.g. Bats usually sleep by day and hunt by night.
In winter, days are shorter than nights.
