kiwi:

a kiwi (person) carrying a kiwi (the kiwi bird)

a native person from New Zealand, a country near Australia

(a kiwi/ kiwi fruit)

{‘Kiwi’ is also the name a flightless bird found in New Zealand, and also used to refer to a fruit, called kiwi fruit, which is native to China but grown in New Zealand.}

[Language Usage:  Technically, the word ‘kiwi’ used for the bird has the same spelling in singular and plural forms; however, when the word is used for people of New Zealand it takes ‘s’ to form the plural, like the word ‘fish’: e.g. ‘Kiwi are flightless birds.’, and “The Kiwis have a ‘kiwi’ as their national bird.”  This grammar rule is not followed strictly; nevertheless, we, at the basic level of learning, must show the distinction whenever it is needed!]
