kingpin:
the most important person of a group or political party, but not the chief or king (does not hold any important official position but holds the power to control), upon whom the success of the group or the political party depends because he/she can think of plans or strategies, usually involving or using illegal or unorthodox methods, in overcoming problems
{‘Kingpin’ is more commonly used in the sport of bowling to refer to the innermost or central pin in the arrangement of bowling pins. (the position of the pin depends on whether it is a ‘tenpin’ bowling or a ‘ninepin’ bowling); and also to refer to the most important point in an argument.}
