kernel ~ colonel:
[‘kernel’ rhymes with ‘colonel’; the letter 'c' in 'colonel' is said with a 'k' sound, as in "king"]

“Kernel” is ‘the part of a grain or seed within the hard out cover; the edible part inside a nut’; and (figuratively) ‘the main or essential part of something’,
