journalist:

a person whose profession/job is journalism

a couple of Angolan journalists preparing a story on war in Angola
Mattiebelle Woods, believed to be the oldest working female journalist (This great lady passed away last year.)

(‘journalism’ = the act or field of writing about something or someone very interestingly, mostly giving the facts, that is published in magazines, journals and newspapers)

(A journalist does not merely report things that happen as the newspaper or TV reporters do, but writes about things and persons gathering facts and using his/her own analyses, opinions or understanding of those things or persons, e.g. “When there was terrorist act at a certain place, the reporters report the incident as it actually happened. The journalist, basing on the facts in the reports, doing a thorough investigation, comparing such incidents that had happened before, drawing parallels, writes an essay with reasons for such an act with conclusion of who was directly responsible and who was indirectly responsible and what could have been done to avoid such incidents, etc.”);

a person who keeps journals

{‘journal’ = a record of personal experiences, opinions, etc., kept/written down by a person regularly, like keeping a diary; an official record of activities/proceedings happened at a meeting or sessions; a book in which new articles, finding, etc., on a particular subject is published from time to time, e.g. medical journal; a newspaper that is published from time to time (periodically), usually on certain chosen subjects or affairs; (in accounting & bookkeeping) a daybook}

[Note (1): Though there is a difference between a 'news reporter' and a 'journalist', these days it is common to find these two words being used as synonyms, i.e. 'news reporter' for a 'journalist' and 'journalist' for a 'news reporter' because some people are in the opinion that both professions do the same job of reporting news!

Note (2): You may have noticed that three different names -- correspondent, journalist and TV reporter -- are used to refer to one person with the same profession related to 'media' in the second video of the related videos you see on the right of this text. This is the general tendency people show these days to refer to a 'media person'!]
