a kind of worm – parasite (= living inside the body of other animals and take food, mostly blood, directly from them; the animal that these parasites live in is called a ‘host’) –

very small, only 5-11 mm (millimetres) long

with teeth-like organs in the ‘mouth hole’ to attach themselves to other animals; lives for (some species) 6 months, (some other) 1-5 years, and (yet some other) 15 years; there are very many species (kinds) found all over the world

Though there are numerous species of hookworm, only two species attack/infect people!

The infected host, the animal that is attacked by hookworms, suffers from blood deficiency, called ‘anaemia’.
