hireling:

a couple of hirelings laying the lawn grass

a person whose services may be hired, i.e. a person who works on payment of money on special occasions, not a regular worker or employee; a temporary worker, e.g. “We need a couple of hirelings at the club this week as we have some unexpected foreign guests.”

hirelings at a godown awaiting instructions

a person who cares only for the money he/she earns but does not care about the kind of work he/she does for that money, usually some offensive (bad) or unpleasant work
