hackney
(also ‘hack‘)
a breed of horse – mammal – grows to 5 feet tall at the shoulder; originally bred in Great Britain
Special Features:
Hackneys are well-bred horses, with great stamina and grace in walking or running. They lift their feet/hooves high while walking which is called ‘trotting’, and they are also used in pulling carts (carriages).
[The ‘hackney pony’ is a breed of horse – related to but smaller than the ‘hackney horse’; used mostly in horse shows, for pulling carriages (carts);
and they are so gentle that they are used for children learning to ride horses!]
