flat fish as food

Most of the species (kinds) of flatfish are an important food source.

The flatfish swim on one side their body, and lie down on the bottom of the seas and oceans.  Therefore, both the eyes are placed on one side of the head!

both eyes on one side

The most amazing feature is that a flatfish has its two eyes on either side of its head when it is in larval stage,

but as the fish grows big, the eye on the side the fish lies down gradually moves (migrates) to the other side of the head!!

Flatfish can change their body colour to suit the surroundings (camouflage).
