(plural: ‘debtors‘; pronunciation: the letter ‘b’ is silent; opposite word in meaning: ‘creditor‘)

‘debt’ = something, usually money but also some favour or obligation, that a person owes to another person

a debtor worrying about clearing the debts/loans

a person who owes money to another person or company;

a person who borrows something, especially money, from somebody and fails to repay it;

a person who has a debt to clear;

(less commonly & in law and banks) a debitor;

a borrower,

a debtor paying back his debt

e.g.

Many of us are not aware that a debtor has some rights, and a creditor needs to take some precautions before approaching his debtor.

Instead of getting together and settling the debt in a conducive atmosphere, many debtors and creditors usually take unnecessary measures that actually throw the debtors deeper into trouble than get them out of trouble.

There are several occasions where some unprofessional banks send their debt collectors to collect debts by hook or crook, and the debt collectors take extreme measures and harass the debtors to the extent that some of the debtors, out of shame and helplessness, commit suicides!
