deacon:

(plural: ‘deacons‘; female: ‘deaconess’)

a religious person who does some jobs in a Christian society;

a person below the rank of a priest in some Christian Churches,

e.g.

Christine’s uncle is a decent man with a pleasant attitude, and so he’s made the deacon of their community church.

In Catholic Churches, deacons are mostly appointed by the senior clergymen.

Deacons serve the Church in several different ways, and their duties include inviting people into the church, collecting funds and spending them wisely within the Church and also outside the Church.

Note: ‘Deacon’, always with a capital “D”, is used in front of a deacon’s name as a title of respect, e.g. Deacon James Burton, Deacon Gelbert Lopez, etc.

‘Deacon’, always with a capital “D” & with other spellings — ‘Dekon’ & ‘Deakin’, is often found in the names of people, e.g. John Deacon, David Deacon Jones, Arlene Deacon, etc.
