date:

(plural: ‘dates‘)

Apart from several other meanings/definitions…
‘date’, in this context = a social meeting, with a touch of romance being attached, between an unmarried man and an unmarried woman or a grown-up boy and a grown-up girl to have some good time together and also to get to know each other better, also called ‘dating’

a person who has a date,

two dates on a date

e.g.

Roma went out with her date, a young man of decent disposition, and return home late completely satisfied with her evening out!

Benson settled for Susan who was his tenth date, and took her for his girlfriend and within a year they both got married.

Dates usually meet in person before deciding when and where to meet. A ‘blind date’, however, is a person who meets his/her partner only at the appointed time but not before!

Most of the datings these days are made on the Internet through ‘dating agencies’, and the dates find themselves in an awkward situation when they meet somebody who is entirely different from their idea of a date.

Massey went out on a blind date, and was surprised to learn that her date was really a blind person! (the first date, ‘blind date’, = a romantic meeting; the second date = a person who participated in dating)

(dates on a calender)

A more common meaning is the number of the day with month and year,

e.g.

What is your date of birth?

Today’s date is 15th November, 2011.;

and a kind of fruit — palm date.

(dates — fruit)
