a popular darky icon of the past

a black man or woman; a person with dark skin colour;

an insulting word for a native Australian,

(The Good Darky, statue of Uncle Jack)

e.g.

It’s interesting to note that in his speech against gay marriages an African American Christian priest said that ‘black people’ voted against the same sex marriages but elected a ‘darky’ (President Obama) who supported the same sex marriages as their president!

Some people take this expression ‘darky’ in a humorous sense, but some others take a very serious exception to using it in public or private.

When some people start stirring up things, even an age old friendly gesture becomes an issue of racial conflict. The best example could be the statue of ‘darky’ (the image placed here) in Louisiana, USA!
