a young unmarried woman of noble birth,
a damsel in distress
e.g.
The prince fought with the cruel man and saved the damsel from the cave.
‘Dame’ is a married woman and ‘damsel’ is a young unmarried woman.
Young men naturally rush to help some cute-looking damsel in need of some help but try not to mind an old woman or man who needs the same kind of help!
