cooper:

(also called ‘hooper’; plural: ‘coopers‘; pronunciation: the letter ‘c’ is said with a ‘k’ sound)

a person who makes and/or repairs wooden barrels, casks and tubs (barrel, in this context, = a large, almost round, wooden tub-like bowl),

A cooper is also called a ‘hooper’ because of the ‘hoops’, the metal rings that keep the wooden planks used in making a barrel.

A wine cooper is a person who tests the quality of wine, stores it in bottles or barrels and sells it.

As the wooden barrels and other wooden utensils, such as casks, have gone out of use, the coopers who make and repair them have also gone out of work.
