‘to control’ = to show authority and direct or correct somebody or something in a proper or right way; to adjust something, such as a value on a machine, to make something move slowly or fast, e.g. “The police controlled the traffic in such a systematic way that there was no traffic jam or accident!”; and ‘control’ is also used as a noun to mean the act of keeping somebody or something in a proper or desirable way using authority or power, e.g. “The President has gained complete control over his ministers and the chiefs of the armed forces.”

a person who is in charge of some activity or some other person, and who directs, guides and/or controls their activities following some rules, e.g. the employees in an office, organisation, system, etc. or resident students at a boarding school;

A financial controller must have enough knowledge in accounting, budgeting and problem solving in preparing accounting reports.

There are different types of controllers: road traffic controller, air traffic controller, pest controller, sales controller, mining controller, and so on.

As there is a lot of traffic on the roads during busy hours, the police are aided with some non-police traffic controllers whose prime duty is to direct and guide the pedestrians in crossing the roads.
