a person who stays with/lives or goes with (or follows) another person in order to help or assist on friendly terms or as a job;

a person, usually a woman, whose job is to travel with another person, especially an older and sick woman, in order to help, assist or just entertain; a company; a fellow traveller,

a companion (L)

e.g.

Hugh is a good companion with whom you can spend hours together without ever getting bored.

These days there are agencies that supply qualified and trained companions who can look after the sick and the aged professionally.

When Phillip is on his vacation, he engages a couple of female companions for some recreation and fun.

The word ‘company’ is used to refer to a group of companions or friends, for instance, we can say, “A person is judged by the company he/she keeps.”
