(also called ‘coloratura soprano‘ or ‘soprano‘; plural: ‘coloraturas‘; pronunciation: the letter ‘c’ is said with a ‘k’ sound as in “king”, the letters ‘color’ rhyme with the word “colour” and the letters ‘tu’ rhyme with the letters ‘too’ in “took”)

a singer with the highest pitch of voice with trills and runs,

a female coloratura singing

e.g.

Esther Simkin is a coloratura soprano who gives lessons to people who are interested in classical music.

Male and female coloraturas are in great demand in opera houses.

Only those who know or understand classical music can enjoy the singing of coloraturas or coloratura sopranos.

Note: ‘Coloratura’ is also used to refer to a kind of music written for a solo singer with high level (high-pitched) voice.
