a kind of insect – belongs to beetles – small with ten black stripes on yellow wing coverings; grows to 3/8 inches (10 mm) long; feeds mainly on the leaves of potato plants, and also on the leaves of tomato, eggplant, pepper, tobacco, etc.; originally from eastern Rocky Mountains, USA, and Mexico, but now found worldwide

It is a very serious pest of potato crops, and also crops such as tomato, tobacco, eggplant, pepper, etc.

It is very difficult to eradicate them because they develop resistance to chemical insecticides, and keep living even when the farmers spray pesticides!
