(plural: ‘cobblers‘; pronunciation: the letter ‘c’ is said with a ‘k’ sound as in “king”)
a cobbler/shoemaker
(old usage) a person who makes and repairs shoes and boots;
a shoemaker;
a careless workman,
a cobbler/careless worker, dropping things
e.g.
Jerry usually buys cheap shoes and so has to visit a cobbler once a week to get his broken shoes repaired.
The word cobbler for a person who makes shoes and boots has gone out of usage and these days few people use ‘cobbler’ for a shoemaker.
In some societies in the past, cobblers were entirely from a low caste and are treated with contempt, and people from other castes, however poor they might be, would not undertake shoe-making as a profession. These days, however, shoes are made in factories and shoe repair is also done in shops and people from all castes, from the highest to the lowest, work in these factories.
