‘to sign’ = to write one’s name on a document in such a way that it cannot be copied by others; ‘signature’ = a person’s name written on a document in a particular or special way that cannot be copied by others

Note 1: ‘Signatory’ or ‘signer’ is a person who signs a legal document.

Note 2: The letter ‘g’ in ‘to sign’ (verb) and in ‘signer’ (noun) is silent, i.e. the letter ‘g’ is written but not pronounced; however, in the words ‘signature’ and ‘signatory’ the letter ‘g’ is written and pronounced.

a person who signs (puts his/her signature or thumb impression) together with others, especially on a legal surety document, to accept/share part of the responsibility; a guarantor;

an organisation, business company or country that signs a treaty, agreement, or some other document jointly with others of the same kind to accept/share part of the responsibility,

a co-signatory for a loan

e.g.

When Julia wanted to take a loan from a bank, she asked Melinda, her best friend, to be the co-signatory for the loan, and being the best friend, Melinda agreed.

Most co-signatories do not know what responsibilities they have in co-signing a deed or a legal document.

In a loan recovery, the bank holds the co-signatories responsible for complete repayment in case the principal signatory fails to clear the loan.
