Tom is an elderly character at our local pub; everybody knows him and he knows everybody else!

Joe is such a silly character that everybody at our office makes fun of him, and, strangely enough, he doesn’t seem to take notice of the ridicule he’s subjected to and never seems to change his behaviour.

Note: ‘Character’ is also used to refer to the qualities and features of a person, and the moral and ethical strength and the general good or bad behaviour of a person, e.g. “He is a man of good character.” and “Her character and conduct were verified thoroughly by the personnel department before she was given the job.” and “Every candidate applying for a job must produce a certificate or testimonial supporting his/her good character and conduct’.
